star-trek-star-wars1Star Trek and Star Wars are a little like oil and water; they don’t mix. Fans have historically passionately embraced one title over the other. This side-choosing has resulted in a epic debate over which is the superior franchise. Comic book, science fiction, and other nerdy conventions actually feature live debates on the subject. ConNooga (a multi-fandom convention in Chattanooga, TN) has hosted such a debate for the last four years! A quick googlin’ will reveal a score of essays, youtube videos, and entire web sites devoted to this topic. My question is has JJ Abrams’s Star Trek movie made such a discussion out dated? Have the two rival franchises actually started to converge? (more…)

The Belcourt Theater in Nashville, TN

Whilst visiting my sister in Nashville, I had a very impromptu, VERY surreal evening out at the flicker shows.

I always try to explore a bit more of Nashville when I go out for a visit. So, I thought I would check to see if there was a decent indie theater around. Google immediately regurgitated the Belcourt Theater.

I checked out their schedule and saw that at 10:00 p.m. they were showing a documentary I had been hearing about for a couple of months called “Anvil: The Story of Anvil.” (more…)

If you haven’t seen this yet, bask in its glory. Take it to your friends and neighbors. Shout it from the rooftops. For it is…unadulterated Sam Rockwell.

I am talking bout “Moon,” the forthcoming indie sci-fi opus from newbie director Duncan Jones. And I really meant unadulterated Sam Rockwell. By the looks of the trailer, the film appears to be about the psychology involved with isolation in space. Can you imagine? An almost one man show featuring the nearly unparalleled talents of a Sam Rockwell who is descending into madness? I am in. In fact, I’m downright geeking out over this one. (more…)
